Smart film and glass work by using a technology called PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) or SPD (Suspension Polymerization Display) to control the transmission of light through a glass surface.
PDLC smart film consists of two layers of transparent conductive film, which sandwich a layer of liquid crystals dispersed in a polymer matrix. The liquid crystals are randomly oriented when the film is not powered, causing the film to appear opaque or frosted. When an electrical current is applied, the liquid crystals align and the film becomes clear or transparent, allowing light to pass through.
Both smart film and glass can be controlled with a switch, remote control, or smartphone app, allowing the user to adjust the level of privacy and light transmission as needed. PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) Glass is a kindly laminated glass, which can change to be transparent or opaque instant by switching the electricity power by means applying with PDLC film. When power off, coming visible light scatters through the PDLC, and the film turns translucent;When power on, coming visible light transmits the PDLC and the Film turns clear.
